Freedom For All
Living with ALS
01 / Easy Set Up
Caretakers of ALS patients and patients themselves already have so much on their plate and so much to worry about. For this reason, we made it essential that our product be easy to use in order to avoid extra complications or hassle.
02 / Simple Design
To make things both easier and more cost efficient for our ALS users, we have created a device that is low-tech and minimal. This way, our device is not too bulky and is cheaper than the current market options.
03 / Low Cost
Due to the financial burden placed on individuals with ALS, we have worked diligently to create an attachment that is both low-cost and long-lasting.
About Us
OUR STORY
As Biomedical Engineering students at Tulane University, we were challenged with finding a medical need that we might satisfy through the development of a biomedical device. After meeting and working with members of Team Gleason in New Orleans, Louisiana, we were able to identify our target community, identify a problem, and begin working on our design.
OUR VISION
People with ALS, who are currently unable to use their eye-gaze technology in the sun, need an inexpensive, low-tech solution that allows them to communicate and drive their wheelchairs outside. We have strived to design and develop a device that successfully meets this need for these individuals.
OUR TECHNOLOGY
Our design consists of a simple, universal wheelchair attachment that allows people with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) to use their devices outdoors in the sun.
